Globe recently revealed the Ilonggo journalists who are
nominated for the 2015 Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA). This was done
during the Media Appreciation Lunch hosted by the giant telecom company on
September 22 at Diversion 21 Hotel.
“GMEA is an award-giving body that recognizes excellence in
journalism from the best breed of scribes in Visayas and Mindanao. The awards
pay tribute and give recognition to print, broadcast, social and digital media
practitioners who have excelled in their respective fields,” says Riki Ferer,
Globe Telecom Executive.
From the hundreds of entries, a total of 53 were shortlisted
for the nine categories, which are Reporter of the Year for Print, Investigative
Story of the Year for Print/Online, Columnist of the Year, Photojournalist of
the Year, Reporter of the Year for Television, Investigative Story of the Year
for Television, Reporter of the Year for Radio, Blogger of the Year, and Social
Media Advocate of the Year.

In the Investigative Story of the Year for Print category, Francis Allan Angelo of the Daily Guardian is nominated, while Rex
Casiple, also of the Daily Guardian, and Sammy Julian of Panay News made it to
the Columnist of the Year category.
For Reporter of the Year for Print, the nominees are Louine
Hope Conserva and Dolly Yasa, both of the Daily Guardian, and Ime Sornito of
Panay News. Runelyn Jamolo of DYLL is nominated for Reporter of the Year for
Radio, for her story on women’s role in Iloilo’s drug problems.
Guijo DueƱas and Joselito Villasis of Panay News, and Ricky
Alejo of the Daily Guardian are contenders for the Photojournalist of the Year
award.
The awards night will be tomorrow, September 24, at the Grand
Convention Center, Cebu City, to coincide with the celebration of the Cebu
Press Freedom Week.
