The Medical City Iloilo launches 'Sweet Connections' diabetes information campaign

According to the data of the Philippine Journal of Internal Medicine in its review in 2008, diabetes continues to rise in the Philippines with 7.2% of the population or 6.3 million Filipinos reported to be diagnosed with diabetes. Meanwhile, 14.2% of Filipinos already with the risk of pre-diabetes.

As part of its “diaBEATes” Campaign which primarily aims to combat diabetes through information dissemination and early detection, The Medical City Iloilo (TMC Iloilo) recently held a series diabetes talks to various groups and organizations.

First Leg of "Sweet Connections" with the members of Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Mary Immaculate International in Pavia, Iloilo.

The first leg of the said diabetes talk series was held last December in the municipality of Pavia with the member of Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Mary Immaculate International. Meanwhile, the 2nd and 3rd legs of the “Sweet Connections” were held this February in partnership with the Sun Life Financial and Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Iloilo City.

“We have launched the “diaBEATes” Campaign December last year because we want to help Ilonggos become more educated of the risks of diabetes which is now considered as one of the leading lifestyle diseases not only here in the Philippines but also across the globe,” said TMC Iloilo Chief Marketing Officer Prince Juliene Hermaine Celo.

Second leg with the insurance agents of Sun Life Financial of Canada.

“More than a campaign, “diaBEATes” is an advocacy as we target to help those who are having or those who have high risk of acquiring diabetes by making early detection tests and TMC Iloilo Diabetes and Metabolism Center accessible to the Ilonggo community,” he added.

 “Sweet Connections” Diabetes Talk Series is one of the programs included in the “diaBEATes” Campaign. TMC Iloilo is launching more activities and events as part of the said campaign in the coming months.

Third leg of "Sweet Connections" with the clinic teachers of the Department of Education Division of Iloilo City.

1st HOLISTIC DIABETES AND METABOLISM CENTER

TMC Iloilo houses the first holistic Diabetes and Metabolism Center in Iloilo. The said center offers various services specialized for the needs of the diabetes patients. These include the Eye and Vision Center for their eye care needs, Wellness Center which offers nutrition counseling services, and the Stoma and Wound Care Center for the treatment and management of unhealed wounds.

The Medical City Iloilo's Dr. Ma. Rosanna Subade-Junio gives sound advises and useful information about diabetes during the "Sweet Connections" Diabetes Talk Series.

All these programs are tailored to fit for the management of diabetes and its possible complications. TMC Iloilo Diabetes and Metabolism Center is also being manned by expert specialists and trained nurses who have high credentials in handling diabetes related cases.
