Globe, DITO to interconnect for mobile calls, SMS

Anchored on improving customer experience and services, Philippine telecommunications players Globe and DITO Telecommunity inked an interconnection deal linking subscribers of both telcos.

The interconnection agreement covers domestic mobile calls and SMS enabling Globe’s customers to make mobile calls, send SMS with DITO Telecommunity's customers without additional charges. The interconnection is expected to commence next month.

“Globe’s collaboration with DITO Telecommunity is part of our commitment to improve customer services by enhancing connectivity among others. This interconnection also reflects the vibrancy of competition in the telecommunications industry,” Globe's General Counsel Atty. Froilan Castelo said.

Globe is also finalizing an interconnection deal with DITO Telecommunity on the fixed landline space.

Interconnection among telco providers is in line with provisions for compulsory interconnection of authorized public telecommunications carriers under Republic Act 7925. The law aims to create a universally accessible and fully integrated nationwide telecommunications network to encourage more infrastructure investments from the private sector that would benefit the consumers.

Globe’s aggressive builds and network expansion since last year have made it possible for customers to elevate their call, SMS and data browsing experience.

Globe has laid out a 3-pronged strategy for its network upgrades and expansion, which includes aggressive cell site builds; upgrading its cell sites to 4G/LTE using many different frequencies; and fast tracking the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.

Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UN SDG No. 9 which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
