The Iloilo City Government received another honor as it was recognized by the Bureau of Local Government Finance for Best Fiscal Management Practice, being one of the LGUs in the country with best practices in efficient allocation of funds and resources in the time of COVID-19.
Last October 2021, during the BLGF's "Launching of LGU Best Practices in Local Fiscal Management during COVID-19 Pandemic" webinar, Mayor Jerry Treñas presented how the city government effectively allocated its resources as it handles the pandemic crisis.
The national agency gave the award in a BLGF Stakeholders Recognition Program in Clark Freeport Zone, Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
“The Bureau of Local Government Finance has recognized Iloilo City having the best fiscal management during a pandemic. That was a very inspiring award considering that we did our best to give assistance to everyone. Our good fiscal management has resulted to the highest ever surplus last year of almost P500M. We make sure that the funds of the city are always put to good use,” Treñas said during the flag ceremony last March 28.
The award highlighted the city’s Covid-19 response initiatives in terms of Provision of Assistance to Affected Households and Marginalized Sectors, Protecting the Health Care Workers and the Public from Covid-19, and Delivery of Education in the New Normal.
“We are very happy that we won the Best Fiscal Management Practice during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the area of Efficient Allocation of Funds and Resources. Madamu guid nga salamat sa City Treasurer's Office sa inyo padayon nga serbisyo apisar sa ginaatubang naton nga mga pagtilaw kag paglab-ot sang akon handum para sa ciudad,” Treñas added.
