Iloilo City was hailed as the Gold Awardee for the Most Bike-Friendly City in the Philippines during the Mobility Awards 2021, besting 29 other cities.
“Ang akon handum, gintuman guid naton. Gintinguhaan
ta guid nga mangin mas sustainable ang aton ciudad gani, kaupod sa mga private
sector kag individual, ginkilala kita sang Mobility Awards bilang Most Bike
Friendly City in the Philippines,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.
The city has an 11-kilometer bike lane
network encompassing the districts of Mandurriao, Jaro, Molo, and the city
proper. This includes the 4-kilometer protected bike lane along Benigno Aquino
Avenue.
“Mapatindog pa guid kita dugang nga
protected bike lanes sa Circumferential Road para sa aton mga bikers. Ang
ahensya, gin-imbitahan man kita nga mag-intra sa Katipunan Award para sa dugang
nga duag para sa aton ciudad. Madamo pa guid kita mga iniyatibo para masulong
ang turismo nga makabulig dugang nga pangabuhian sa aton mga kasimanwa. Ang
akon ginaobra, para guid sa kaayuhan sang akon mga pinalangga nga mga Ilonggo,”
Treñas added.
Being an awardee, the city received a Gold
Bicycle-Friendly Recognition Sign, a certification designating the city’s
ranking, and gift certificates from bicycle-friendly establishments worth
P10,000 for the city’s team members.
The Mobility Awards recognizes acts of leadership by local governments, workplaces and commercial establishments promoting cycling as a reliable, efficient and sustainable mode of transport among their constituencies, customers, employees and communities. The organizers are The Climate Reality Project Philippines, Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities, MNL Moves, Pinay Bike Commuter Community, and 350.org Philippines.
