Iloilo City joins CityNet disaster preparedness seminar

Iloilo City joins this year’s 15th CityNet Disaster Cluster Seminar (DCS) hosted by the City Government of Makati with the theme “Rethink Resilience. Resilience in Action” from June 7 to 8, 2023 in Metro Manila.

 

The city is a member of CityNet, and Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is part of the organization’s Executive Committee. He was represented during the seminar by Lester Mark Carnaje of the Public Information Office who spoke about his reflections on behalf of the Philippine delegation.

During the seminar, disaster risk reduction (DRR) champions, professionals and practitioners from Asia-Pacific region had the opportunity to disseminate best practices and provide necessary guidance on addressing the increasing systemic risks that the cities are facing.

 

The platform also offered opportunities to develop city-to-city cooperation to support capacity development in specific areas of DRR.

 

CityNet is a network of cities with over 150 municipalities, non-government organizations, private companies, and research centers dedicated to connecting actors, exchanging knowledge, and building commitment to establish more sustainable and resilient cities.

 

As a member, Iloilo City will represent in global and regional working groups and conferences and present its best practices to an international audience. It will also help recruit more city members and organizations. It will likewise develop project proposals for external support and submit the same for possible grant.
